Counselling for Children and Young People

There may be times in a child or young person's life when they struggle to manage their thoughts, feelings or actions.  They may have lost a loved one, experienced a family breakdown or be struggling with their own self esteem.  It may feel impossible to speak about this with family or friends.

A child or young person's world is very different to that of an adult's.  Our counselling sessions reflect that.  Counselling sessions are often filled with games and exercises that ease the process of talking about feelings.  By encouraging the use of their imagination a child or young person can be helped to understand problematic situations, feelings or emotions.

Throughout these sessions the cornerstone of our practice remains the same, namely, the creation of a safe and trusting counselling relationship,

We help a child or young person to share with us what is proving difficult for them.  By helping them to understand their thoughts and feelings it becomes possible to consider other ways of feeling or behaving in a safe environment.  Problems and feelings that may have seemed huge or unmanageable can be seen in a new light and children and young people are able to take this learning in to their everyday life.
